Pre-Fall Program: The Heart in Ireland

The Heart in Ireland is an eight-day, pre-fall program designed specifically for incoming Sacred Heart University students and led by Professor Gerald Reid of SHU’s Sociology Department. Based at SHU’s campus in Dingle, County Kerry, Ireland, the program includes a range of activities and cultural experiences. In addition, through periodic guided reflections, students receive an experiential introduction to The Human Journey, the University’s Common Core Curriculum. The program also offers new SHU students the opportunity to form meaningful and lasting connections with a group of fellow classmates and a senior member of the faculty. Students will earn one academic credit for their participation in the program.
"This experience is life-changing. Although I have been to Europe in the past, nothing compares. None of us knew each other before, but now that we have become so close, moving into college is less nerve-racking and definitely more exciting. There will be no regrets if you come on this trip." ~Lauren, The Heart in Ireland 2009
"All the trips you go on during the program are able to give you a glimpse of the history and culture. This trip is a great place to try something new and break out of your shell. This trip was an amazing experience and I want to come back as soon as I can." ~MaryKate, The Heart in Ireland 2009
